Video crew
Help make my YouTube vlogs and TikTok videos, behind the camera in Toronto or editing from home.
Good to know before you apply: I'm disabled and an ambulatory wheelchair user. When we're out and about I use a powered wheelchair, and in smaller indoor spaces I can get around on my feet.
These are volunteer roles. What that means
What I'm working toward
Beyond Shaun Martin is my vlog channel on YouTube and TikTok. Here's where I want to take it.
- Vlogs people can count on
New vlogs on a regular schedule my viewers can rely on.
- Videos that look and sound good
Steady shots framed at my eye level, and clear sound, even when we're out and about.
- Captions on every video
So people who are Deaf, hard of hearing, or watching with the sound off can follow along.
- Short videos from every vlog
Clips for TikTok, Instagram Reels, and YouTube Shorts, so new people can find the channel.
- Shoots that work for everyone
Planned ahead at wheelchair-accessible places around Toronto, at times that suit the crew.
- A channel that can pay its crew
Growing to the point where sponsored videos can pay the people who help make them.
Roles
On location in Toronto
- Camera operator
Film my vlogs when we're out and about, keeping pace beside my wheelchair and keeping the shot steady and framed at my eye level while I talk. If you're comfortable with a camera or phone, that's enough to start.
- Second camera
Capture extra angles and cutaway shots that make the vlogs more fun to watch.
- Sound recording
Set up microphones and record clean sound on location, so every word comes through clearly.
- Production assistant
Help with gear, setup, and keeping shoot days running smoothly.
From home
- Video editing
Turn raw vlog footage into finished videos, keeping the pacing and feel of my channel.
- Short-form editing
Turn vlogs into short clips for TikTok, Instagram Reels, and YouTube Shorts.
- Thumbnails
Design a thumbnail for each vlog that makes people want to click.
- Captions
Write accurate captions for every video, so people who are Deaf, hard of hearing, or watching with the sound off can follow along.
- Channel management
Upload videos, write titles and descriptions, and keep the posting schedule on track.
How it works
- Shoots are in person around Toronto at wheelchair-accessible places, planned ahead at times that work for both of us. From-home roles happen on your own schedule.
- Before the first shoot, we'll meet somewhere public to get to know each other.
- You're credited by name or handle in any video or post that uses your work.
- Before you start, we both sign a short agreement. You keep ownership of what you create, and the agreement gives me permission to post the photos, footage, and edits you make for me anywhere I share my work, including sponsored posts, always with credit to you.
- If a shoot costs you money, like TTC fare, I'll pay you back for those actual costs. We'll agree on them before the shoot.
- If a brand pays me for a video or post, everyone who works on that shoot is paid too, at a rate we agree on before the shoot.
- You can step away at any time.
- Crew members need to be 18 or older.
How to join
Email the role you're interested in, a little about yourself, and samples of your work if you have them, like videos, edits, or thumbnails. Please confirm you're 18 or older.
