Photo crew
Help with my photography, from portraits to street photography, on shoots around Toronto or editing from home.
Good to know before you apply: I'm disabled and an ambulatory wheelchair user. When we're out and about I use a powered wheelchair, and in smaller indoor spaces I can get around on my feet.
These are volunteer roles. What that means
What I'm working toward
My photography covers street, nature, people, and animals, plus galleries of me and Annabella. Here's what I'm working toward.
- Nine great photos in every gallery
Street, Nature, People, Animals, Shaun, and Annabella, each filled with my best work.
- Professional portraits
Portraits of me, and of Annabella, for my website and social media.
- Accessible places worth shooting
A growing list of spots around Toronto that make great photos and are easy to reach in my wheelchair.
- Alt text on every photo
Image descriptions on my website and Instagram, so people who are blind or have low vision can enjoy them too.
- Instagram on a regular schedule
Edited photos and captions ready to post.
- Credit for everyone
Every crew member's name on the photos they take or edit.
Roles
On location in Toronto
- Photography assistant
Come along on photo shoots to help with gear and setup, and take my portraits so I can be in front of the camera too. A good eye matters more than experience.
- Second shooter
Shoot alongside me, from portraits of me to behind-the-scenes photos of the shoot.
- Lighting assistant
Set up lights and hold reflectors so every shot is well lit.
- Styling and wardrobe
Help plan outfits, props, and looks for portrait shoots.
- Location scouting
Find wheelchair-accessible spots around Toronto for street and nature photography.
From home
- Photo editing
Colour-correct and retouch photos from shoots so they're ready to post.
- Gallery curation
Sort and organize photos, and help pick the best ones for the website galleries.
- Alt text
Write image descriptions for photo posts and the website galleries, so people who are blind or have low vision can enjoy them too.
- Social posting
Write captions and schedule posts for Instagram.
How it works
- Shoots are in person around Toronto at wheelchair-accessible places, planned ahead at times that work for both of us. From-home roles happen on your own schedule.
- Before the first shoot, we'll meet somewhere public to get to know each other.
- You're credited by name or handle in any video or post that uses your work.
- Before you start, we both sign a short agreement. You keep ownership of what you create, and the agreement gives me permission to post the photos, footage, and edits you make for me anywhere I share my work, including sponsored posts, always with credit to you.
- If a shoot costs you money, like TTC fare, I'll pay you back for those actual costs. We'll agree on them before the shoot.
- If a brand pays me for a video or post, everyone who works on that shoot is paid too, at a rate we agree on before the shoot.
- You can step away at any time.
- Crew members need to be 18 or older.
How to join
Email the role you're interested in, a little about yourself, and samples of your work if you have them, like photos or edits. Please confirm you're 18 or older.
